Phillip Van Horn (TREVOR ST. JOHN "Bio Dome," "Crimson Tide," "Higher Learning") returns to his home town of Cuba, Missouri, where everybody now thinks that he is a famous celebrity after leaving for Hollywood thirteen years prior to become an actor.
Upon entering his dead-end home town, Phillip remembers many hurtful childhood memories and exactly why he had fled immediately after high school graduation. He is anxious to leave town again, until he sees his true love, Dorothy Sternen (MARY STUART MASTERSON "Fried Green Tomatoes," "Bed of Roses," "Some Kind of Wonderful," "Benny & Joon"), the beautiful girl of his childhood dreams.
Dorothy, a fallen cheerleader and beauty queen, now runs the local hair salon and has been trapped in a "going-no-where" relationship with her overbearing and sometimes violent boyfriend, Ezra Good (JON FAVREAU "Swingers," "Rudy," "PCU").
Ezra, a one-time high school all-star athlete, is now a loser who is bitter and angry about how unkind fate has been to him over the past thirteen years. All that Ezra has left is his high school sweetheart, Dorothy, and his best friend Curtis Lasky (RORY COCHRANE "Dazed and Confused," "Love and a .45," "Empire Records"), a roadkill janitor who dreams of starting a business with Ezra.
As Phillip and Dorothy spend more time together, Phillip finds himself experiencing his childhood feelings all over again and challenging Ezra in a contest for Dorothy's heart. It is not long before Dorothy begins to look for love in Phillip, who in fact had left Hollywood after experiencing years of frustration and rejection -- and with few credits to his name.
Other cast includes two time Academy Award winner HAROLD RUSSELL ("The Best Years of Our Lives"), Oscar nominee KAREN BLACK ("Nashville," "Five Easy Pieces"), NATASHA GREGSON WAGNER (David Lynch's "Lost Highway"), MAUREEN McCORMICK (TV's "The Brady Bunch"), JOHN LIVINGSTON ("The Net") and SHAWNEE SMITH ("Leaving").
